After much whether or not the parliament in London approved a new law earlier this week which means that asylum seekers must be sent to Rwanda and have their application examined there instead of on the spot in Great Britain.

Now the Swedish government announces that Migration Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard will travel to Great Britain on April 24-25.

In London, Maria Malmer Stenergard will meet the Minister of Migration to meet the British Minister responsible for illegal immigration, Michael Tomlinson, for bilateral discussions on, among other things, the work around illegal immigration and return.

– I think there are good opportunities for our countries to deepen cooperation in the area of migration, in accordance with the strategic partnership that Sweden and Great Britain entered into in October last year, says Migration Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard in a statement.

The Migration Minister will also meet former Prime Minister Theresa May in her role as Chair of the Global Commission on Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking.

In addition, Maria Malmer Stenergard will visit the Border Police in Dover and Manston “to follow on the spot and gain an insight into the operational work of the British Border Police to deal with irregular migration [illegal immigration, FT's note] across the English Channel”.
