Sony is working on a new Community Game Help feature that will allow the PS5 console to automatically record gameplay footage. These images can, after a moderation process, be shown to other players who need help. The feature will be opt-in and will be released later this year.

Community Game Help will be an addition to the existing Game Help feature of the PlayStation 5, Sony reports in a blog post. The optional feature lets a PS5 console automatically record clips from a game when the player completes an activity in a supported title. The images are then viewed by a moderator and possibly published. The function will be available later this year for 'a select number of games', although Sony wants to eventually expand the function to 'as many titles as possible'.

The function can, among other things, record images while going through a level, earning a trophy or finding hidden items within a game. The footage will be added to the existing Game Hint menu, where players can already find hints, tips and help videos from the developers of some games.

Users will be notified when one of their help videos has been published. Users also get access to an overview of their published videos and can take them offline themselves. Sony emphasizes that only gameplay footage is recorded. Images and audio from a webcam, microphone, or audio from party chats are not added to the clips. Depending on the game, the username and in-game chat messages of users may be visible.
