Want to give someone a book as a gift without having to leave the house? Then choose a digital book that the recipient can read via the Apple Books app on the iPhone and iPad. You may already know that you can gift apps to friends, but it also works with books from the Books Store.

Giving iBooks as gifts on iPhone and iPad
Have a nice book in mind? Gifting books works like this:
- Open the Books app on your iPhone or iPad. If the Books app is not on your device, you must first install it from the App Store.
- Go to the Book Store tab and find the desired book.
- Choose a book to see more details.
- Tap the gift icon (see image).
- Enter a recipient and a personal message.
- Enter the enter the date on which the book should be delivered.
- Checkout and you're done.
On the specified day, the recipient will receive an email with instructions to download for free. So you pay for the book and the recipient can then download the book via their Apple ID. You don't need to know the recipient's Apple ID. The e-mail address with which you can reach the recipient is sufficient.
It can be a nice last-minute gift if you really couldn't find anything else. But there is a limitation. The gift is only valid in the country where you purchased the book. Do you want someone from Belgium? gift books from the Book Store, you will therefore need a Belgian Apple ID with an associated payment method.
Giving books as a gift on the Mac
Unfortunately, gifting books is no longer possible from the Mac. There is a button for it, but you will be notified that you must complete it on your iPhone or iPad.
