Acura has unveiled some information on the ARX-06, sport hybrid prototype which for the first time will speed through & agrave; on the curbs of Daytona International Speedway for the 24 Hours of Daytona in January 2023, even if the real goal is; the IMSA 2023 championship. Many of the components of the Acura ARX-06 are new: it & egrave; the ORECA LMDh frame, and it is; the unit of power, partly of electrical origin and partly attributable to a splendid – for those nostalgic for the symphony produced by internal combustion engines – 10 thousand rpm Honda V6 .

The presentation of the new Acura sport prototype will be held; tomorrow, Friday & igrave; August 19, California, but the company unveiled more; some details in advance. For the carbon fiber monocoque frame of the ARX-06, Honda Performance Development (HPD) and Acura wanted to continue on the line of collaboration with ORECA which in the past has given great satisfaction, and the ARX-05 ne & egrave; the most important example recently – in 2019 he won the drivers, team and constructors titles in the top DPi class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar championship.

For the body shapes and the aerodynamic study the collaboration & egrave; was three, between HPD, ORECA and the Acura Design Studio in Los Angeles:

The process followed to arrive at the design of the Acura ARX-06 is; exactly the same as what we use to create a common Acura road car (sold by us under the Honda brand, ed) – confessed Dave Marek, Acura's Executive Creative Director. The same high-profile designers who design the Acura series cars started with a few sketches, then turned them into potential designs. Subsequently for each of them & egrave; a scale model was created, tests were carried out in the wind tunnel involving HPD and our partner teams so that give us their feedback.

V6 BITURBO FROM 10,000 RPM AND 680 HP

The Acura ARX-06 & egrave; powered by the Acura AR24e power unit , developed by Honda Performance Development with the aim of introducing electrified powertrains to Acura's endurance sports program. The Japanese company is pushing a lot on electrification, and the Precision EV Concept making its debut at Monterey Car Week the demonstration.

The power unit is; consisting of a 2.4-liter direct injection 90-degree twin-turbo V6 , the most & ugrave; small in terms of displacement never designed by HPD for endurance but capable of meeting the goal of 500 kW of power, that is; 680 hp at the rear axle. Moreover – and & egrave; intuitively important for the future – the combustion chamber is; was designed taking into account the possibility; to fuel the engine with low environmental impact fuels. It will play, and not a little : it reaches the maximum 10,000 rpm imposed by the regulations.
