The future of Lotus & egrave; in the name of electric . As we have seen several times, the British brand will launch by 2026; four new battery-powered models on the market, including a new sports car. In order to carry out this strategy, the car manufacturer needs; to have not only an adequate supply of accumulators but also specific batteries for high performance models.

The signing of a collaboration agreement between Lotus and the Britishvolt battery manufacturer goes in this direction. An agreement on which there was already speculation; for a while of time but which, now, is; been made official. The two companies will work together to develop new advanced technologies dedicated to electric vehicles. In particular, Lotus and Britishvolt will focus on the development of new cells which will be used within the next generation of electric sports cars of the English brand. These cells will make their debut on a high-performance car of which Lotus has shared, for the occasion, a first sketch.

All the clues lead to think that it could be the Type 135 which should arrive in 2026 and which will be; developed together with Alpine. Car that will dispose of a new platform of which Lotus has anticipated some details several months ago. The sketch shared by the English brand suggests that its new electric sports car may have a design inspired by some of its past sports cars such as the Lotus Esprit and Lotus Europa.

Lotus & egrave; the first company to be named as a customer by Britishvolt. The battery maker has promised to announce other major customers in the coming weeks. The priorities of the manufacturer for its electric sports car are the capacity; charging and weight containment. Therefore, to achieve these objectives, Lotus and Britishvolt will certainly have to develop new generation batteries with dedicated specifications.

And speaking of the platform on which it will be born; this sports car, Lotus had told that it could & agrave; to accommodate powertrain with single or double engine with powers between 350 kW and 650 kW . In addition, batteries from 66.4 kWh to 99.6 kWh of capacity can be housed, placed in the center of the frame or arranged in a more convenient way; conventional under the floor.

All that remains is to wait for the evolution of this collaboration to discover what fruits it will bear. from the point of view of battery evolution. Meanwhile, in spring it will be; unveiled the Type 132, an electric SUV.
