The total grain harvest was 5.0 million tonnes. It is 16 percent smaller than last year, despite the fact that the area with winter wheat that gives a high harvest per hectare was record high.

Rainy weather during spring and autumn, as well as drought during the growth period reduced harvest levels. The hectare harvest of winter wheat was 12 percent lower than last year.

At the national level, the hectare harvest of winter rape was 5 percent lower than in 2020. This year's hectare harvest of peas was 23 percent lower than last year's and 20 percent lower than the five-year average. The hectare harvest for field beans was 19 percent lower than last year.

The cold and rainy spring weather delayed the spring sowing and also resulted in re-sowing and no spring sowing at all, according to the Swedish Board of Agriculture. The early summer and summer then came with heat and drought, which led to premature ripening and small kernels. When it was time to harvest, persistent rainy seasons began in many places, which have caused some uncultivated areas.
