The development tests of Lightyear One continue, the well-known car that can be; be recharged even with the sun thanks to the presence of solar panels on the bodywork (roof and bonnet). The Dutch company shared a video showing the work it is doing to get to the definition of the production vehicle. Specifically, in the video, Robby Janssen, test engineer, says that some endurance tests were carried out that allowed to collect important data for the development of the car.

We wanted to verify integrity structural design of the Lightyear One while driving on difficult roads, collect data for our simulation models and use the results for component testing.

was used to collect the data. 72 sensors . The goal of the company was to get to simulate the driving conditions that the vehicle will need; deal normally. Therefore, the prototype of the Lightyear One is; been driven on 20 different surfaces within a test track in Belgium. For example, roads with holes and bumps have been traveled. All these tests have allowed to verify also the reliability & agrave; motors that are placed directly on the wheels.

The endurance tests of the prototype lasted a week. The Dutch company reported that the results were encouraging.

Not only did the recorded data help us validate our virtual model, saving us time and costs, but the structural strength, ride comfort and components proved suitable and provided safe driving during the test.

The company has nevertheless made it known that there was minor damage to the car at the conclusion of the tests but all the small criticisms; they will be resolved within the next phase of the road tests. In the future, tests will also be carried out on aerodynamics and tires. The goal of putting the car on the road for the summer of 2022 remains confirmed.

710 KM WITH A FULL OF ENERGY

In July 2021, the car had been subjected to a mileage test to check its level of efficiency at a test circuit in Germany (Aldenhoven Testing Center). The Lightyear One was able to travel a distance of 441 miles (710 km) at a speed; average of 52 miles per hour (about 83-84 km/h). The battery, please note, has a capacity; of 60 kWh. Thanks to the solar panels, it was possible, during the whole test, to obtain 3.4 kWh of energy, equal to 25 miles (about 40 km) of additional distance.

The company, however, had declared which would have further worked on efficiency in order to achieve even better autonomy. The Lightyear One will be built in 946 units at a cost of 150 thousand euros (excluding taxes).
