A 32-inch monitor with a flat IPS panel, WQHD resolution and 165 Hz was still missing in the Samsung portfolio. This is made up for with the S32AG52. The newcomer from the Odyssey G5 series offers neither USB nor RGB.

The S32AG520 comes without RGB

PC Monitors discovered the new Samsung monitor on the manufacturer's website. The design of the Odyssey G5 S32AG520 is reminiscent of other models in the series, but accents such as the blue ring on the back are only decorative: this model does not have RGB-LED lighting. As with numerous other newcomers to the Odyssey family, Samsung does without a curved display with this newcomer.

WQHD, IPS and 165 Hz on 32 inches

The mixture of WQHD, IPS and 165 Hz on around 32 inches is proving to be quite popular in the meantime. Corsair also chose this recipe for its monitor debut in the form of the Xeneon 32QHD165 (test), for example. Another example is the Gigabyte M32Q.

The 2,560 × 1,440 pixels are also displayed at up to 165 Hz on the Samsung S32AG52. There is no OC function for 170 Hz as with Gigabyte, but this is mainly only useful for marketing. Samsung specifies the response time as 1 ms (GtG), but does not reveal the Moving Picture Response Time (MPRT), which is why the use of a motion blur reduction is unlikely. The IPS panel works with simulated 10 bit (8 bit + FRC) color depth and is certified with the smallest HDR class, DisplayHDR 400. According to Samsung, the monitor supports AMD FreeSync Premium and is also compatible with Nvidia G-Sync.

Among the functions relevant for games, such as the Low Input Lag Mode or the Black Equalizer, there is also a mode for changing the aspect ratio from 16: 9 to the wider 21: 9 format, which Samsung calls Ultrawide Game View, as it does for its televisions. If games support it, more details will be visible on the sides. Since this is a 16: 9 monitor, black bars are displayed above and below; the picture becomes narrower.

Few connections, a lot of ergonomics

With one each DisplayPort 1.2, HDMI 2.0 and a headphone output, the number of connections is small. There are no USB ports at all. On the other hand, the stand with adjustment options for height, inclination and the option of horizontal (swivel) and vertical (pivot) swiveling leaves nothing to be desired.

While the key data are known in detail, no information on price and availability is yet available.
