Faster hardware and new user interface

New, more powerful hardware should also make reading more pleasant, as, for example, turning the pages is 20 percent faster, explains Amazon. In addition, Amazon has redesigned the user interface to deliver an improved and, according to their own account, more intuitive experience.

The new Kindle interface offers navigation with direct access to the start page, library and the current book. The redesigned library includes new filter and sorting functions, a new view for collections and an interactive scroll bar. Settings can also be accessed with a swipe down from the top of the screen. In this way, functions such as screen brightness, airplane mode or dark mode can be accessed without leaving the current reading. Soon, the Kindle app for Android and iOS will also make it easier to set up the Kindle Paperwhite. The new software functions should be rolled out by the end of the year.

Narrower edges and brighter display

The edge of the Kindle Paperwhite has been reduced to 10.2 mm and the 6.8-inch display has a pixel density of 300 ppi. Amazon once again promises good readability even in direct sunlight, to which a 10 percent brighter display should also contribute. Fully charging the Kindle Paperwhite via USB-C takes around 2.5 hours, according to Amazon, if an adapter with 9 watts or more is used.
