New HP monitors: from the elegant UHD model to the curved workhorse

Two very different monitors are finding their way into the HP portfolio. The U32 delivers 4K UHD on 32 inches and uses a flat IPS panel with 60 Hz. The M34d, on the other hand, uses a curved VA panel with UWQHD, 100 Hz and 34 inches. Both have a USB-C port for connecting a notebook.

HP U32 with Ultra HD

HP primarily wants to address creative professionals with both monitors. With the HP U32, these should benefit from the high resolution of 3,840 × 2,160 pixels, which leads to a pixel density of 140 ppi with a 31.5-inch screen diagonal. However, the refresh rate is only a low 60 Hz. With the overdrive function, the response time should reach 4 ms. The IPS display is factory set to a color difference of Delta E & lt; 2 and should cover 99 percent of sRGB and 98 percent of DCI-P3. However, the 10-bit color depth is only simulated (8-bit + FRC). A certification for the HDR standard DisplayHDR 400, which is often ridiculed due to the low requirements, is available.

DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0, USB-C and an audio output are each represented once among the connections. The USB-C port can transfer the image from a notebook to the monitor via DP-Alt-Mode. In the other direction, the monitor can supply the notebook with up to 65 watts of power. There are also three USB-A sockets, but there is no KVM function.

The silver back of the housing with a slim base including height adjustment, pivot and cable routing is an eye-catcher.

M34d with curved VA panel and KVM

The M34d, in turn, can offer an integrated KVM switch, which also has USB-C with the properties mentioned and four USB-A Sockets and a USB-B upstream port. There is also one DisplayPort 1.2, one HDMI 2.0 and one audio output.

The M34d delivers 3,440 × 1,440 pixels in a wide 21: 9 format on a curved VA panel. This offers a higher contrast ratio, but in this case does not achieve the brightness and also not the color range of the IPS model. A luminosity of only 250 cd/m² is specified. There is no HDR certification. HP does not provide any information about the color depth or any calibration. The model has the built-in loudspeakers ahead of the U32.

While the” crooked “HP M34d is already on the market, where its RRP of 499 euros is already undercut, the HP U32 has to wait until November. Then the 4K UHD monitor will cost 549 euros (RRP).
