HP claims that HP's best notebook for end customers, the Specter x360 with 2-in-1 functionality, is now also available in a version with a 16-inch display. In contrast to the well-known 15-inch model, the new version comes in 16:10 format and can optionally be configured with a GeForce RTX 3050 laptop GPU.

16 inches with 16:10 instead of 15 inches with 16: 9

HP last revised the HP Specter x360 15 in January 2020 and advertised it as a 15.6-inch convertible in 14-inch format. Its case measures 360 × 226 × 19.9 mm. With the change from 16: 9 to 16:10, the new 16-inch model is again a bit narrower and thinner with 357.9 × 245 × 19.8 mm, albeit two centimeters deeper. In the future, both variants will initially run in parallel, explains HP, even if the 15-inch model can no longer be found in the manufacturer's German online shop. But the retail trade is still doing it.

Tiger Lake-H35 and optionally Nvidia Ampere

The HP Specter x360 16 is the first consumer notebook from HP to be made from recycled aluminum. Like the old 15 series and the parallel offered variants with Specter x360 13 and Specter x360 14, the new HP Specter x360 16 also uses CPUs of the Intel Tiger Lake generation, although in this case Tiger Lake H35 CPUs and not Tiger Lake CPUs. U-CPUs with 35 instead of 15 watt TDP are used. The CPUs of both classes offer four cores and eight threads, only Tiger Lake-H45 offers eight cores. No details are known about the configuration of the CPU with regard to the TDP, there is a maximum of the Core i7-11390H to choose from. ComputerBase has requested more information.

Without a separately installed graphics card, the HP Specter x360 16 has the Intel Evo certificate (Project Athena 2.0). The new notebook can, however, optionally be equipped with a mobile GeForce RTX 3050 laptop GPU, but it is then no longer certified according to Evo. HP operates the graphics card with the minimum specified by Nvidia with a TDP of 35 watts.

Maximum with UHD OLED display

As known from HP, users can choose the 16-inch screen with 91 percent screen-to-body ratio from a whole range of options. There is a maximum of a factory-calibrated Ultra HD OLED screen certified according to Vesa True Black HDR. An IPS display with 3072 × 1920 pixels with a brightness of up to 400 cd/m² and 100 percent coverage of the sRGB color space is also available. Four loudspeakers are responsible for the audio output.

5 megapixel webcam with closure

HP is proud of the” first integrated, intelligent 5 MP camera in a 16-inch notebook “. Behind this is a function that, like Apple's Center Stage for the iPad, always keeps the user in the center of the recording, even when he is moving in front of the notebook or in the room.

The webcam, which is compatible with Windows Hello, offers a physical lock that can be opened and closed using a keyboard shortcut. The microphone also shows the user whether it is active: in this case via a status LED.

Additional features include Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6E and an NVMe SSD, optionally in combination with Intel Optane Memory. Two Thunderbolt 4 via USB Type C, one USB 3.1 Gen with 10 Gbit/s via USB Type A, HDMI 2.0b, a microSD card reader and jack are available as connections. The RAM is soldered. The 63 watt-hour 6-cell battery should allow up to 17 hours of battery life in mixed operation and can be charged from 0 to 50 percent in 45 minutes using the 90-watt power adapter that is included. The keyboard is illuminated.
