Saints Row: Reboot throws the dildo out

Deep Silver clears the table and completely reboots Saints Row. In the reboot it goes to Mexico to build a criminal empire there with brand new protagonists. However, the developers have adopted the central mantra of the series: The focus is on fun, but this time without a dildo.

A reboot of the series is necessary because players in Saints Row have already ruled the universe and then hell in the course of the last two parts. This, according to the simple logic of Volition, can no longer be increased, it is time for a fresh start with a completely new game world, in which new ideas can flow. Saints Row is, there is no doubt about it, a new beginning.

Fun stays central

At its core is the question of what Saints Row should be. It promises to be the largest playground in the series to date, which is divided into nine districts with different identities, where the players as the boss of the Saints gang steal from three hostile organizations bit by bit. After taking over an area, its use is in the hands of the players, who can set up different shops there, which in turn generate different side missions and thus influence gameplay options.

The rise of the Saints is staged as the story of a start-up, a promising concept for humorous swipes. In terms of content, other contemporary topics should also be addressed. The announcement that the reboot will be more firmly grounded is to be understood relatively anyway: In comparison with Saints Row 4 and his supernatural abilities or the third part with his penis humor. The iconic penetrator therefore has no place in the arsenal: a gigantic, purple dildo as a striking weapon does not fit the new approach. Weird activities such as insurance fraud or eccentric weapons, this time also modifiable, will continue to exist. When it comes to mission design, too, the focus is on having fun, assures Volition.

Co-op with prank option

As part of the entertainment, there are more means of transport to choose from, including wingsuits. The aim is to make the car itself more of a weapon, rather than just serving as a drive-by option. Volition also wants to improve weapon handling.

Perhaps the most important announcement concerns the multiplayer: This is a cooperative game for the entire story, which can be experienced in this way with a friend. A prank option should provide variety. The developers have not yet revealed how exactly and with what effects you can joke.

Due to the co-op concept, cross play is also part of the feature set. Saints Row will be released on February 25, 2022 for the PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series One and Series X as well as the PC exclusively via the Epic Games Store.
