MX Linux 21 (“Wildflower”): The new class leader can be tried out

The extremely popular Linux distribution MX Linux is based as MX-21 (“Wildflower”) on the Debian 11 (“Bullseye”) announced for August 14th and the current desktop Xfce 4.16. The first beta of the new edition based on Linux 5.10 LTS is now available for everyone to test and explore.

For the first beta, which includes new software packages and a revised installer, the developers have noted the following new features and changes in the official release notes.

  • New and updated applications
  • New installer partition selection area, including some lvm support if lvm volume exists already
  • New UEFI live system boot menus. Now you can select your live boot options (persistence, etc …) from the boot menu and submenus rather than using the previous console menus.
  • New Xfce 4.16 desktop environment.
  • User password (sudo) for admin tasks by default. You can switch this in mx-tweak- & gt; Other tab.
  • Many small configuration changes, particularly on the panel with new default panel plugins.

Debian derivative with own applications

In addition to well-known applications such as the LibreOffice office suite, which is largely compatible with Microsoft Office, the GIMP graphics and drawing program, the Firefox browser and the Thunderbird e-mail client, MX Linux brings its very own applications, the so-called “MX Apps”, with, which range from small helpers specially adapted to the Linux distribution to full-blown applications and are intended to make the operating system more adaptable and easier to maintain. MX Linux, first published on March 24, 2014, has brought it to a dominance in the ranking of the Linux website DistroWatch, based on views and potential interest, which in this form was previously only used by established giants such as the Debian derivative Ubuntu from Canonical or the derivative Linux Mint based on it could be observed, which also led the ranking for a long time.
