Motorola is repositioning itself with the Edge 20 series in the smartphone segment of the middle to upper class. Edge 20 Pro, Edge 20 and Edge 20 Lite cost 700, 500 and 350 euros and offer correspondingly more or less equipment. However, all smartphones are united by the new main camera with 108 megapixels on a large 1/1.5 inch.
Edge 20 Pro comes with periscope zoom
The new top model is the Edge 20 Pro with Snapdragon 870, 12 GB RAM, 256 GB storage, 6.7-inch OLED screen with 144 Hz and a 4,500 mAh battery that can be charged with up to 30 watts. The back is adorned with a total of three cameras, including the new main camera with 108 megapixels on a large 1/1.5 inch. Motorola combines nine pixels into one pixel, as Samsung does with this sensor, so that effectively 12 megapixels are offered with a higher light sensitivity. A fivefold optical periscope zoom is celebrating its premiere at Motorola, which can be increased to up to 50x by means of digital magnification. In addition, a combined camera for ultra-wide-angle and macro photos is available.

Edge 20 also with 144 Hz
The normal Edge 20 relies on the Snapdragon 778G, 8 GB RAM, 128 GB storage and also 6.7 inches on an OLED panel with 144 Hz. The battery still measures 4,000 mAh, but can be recharged with up to 30 watts. There is also a tie with the main camera, ultra-wide angle and macro, but the telephoto is weaker without a periscope. Motorola mentions a magnification of up to 30x including digital zoom levels.
The Edge 20 Lite takes over the sensor from the main camera, but offers 8 megapixels, but a lower resolution for ultra-wide-angle photos. Also on board is an integrated function for macro photos. A depth camera with 2 megapixels provides the bokeh effect for portraits. The smallest of the new models, MediaTek, provides computing power with the Dimensity 720, which has 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. With 5,000 mAh, the Edge 20 Lite has the largest battery among the three newcomers, which according to Motorola should last for two days.

Aside from the pure technical specifications, the smartphones offer new camera modes, including the dual capture mode, which can be used to record photos or videos with two cameras at the same time. The Edge 20 Pro and Edge 20 have a new audio zoom that is supposed to be able to filter out ambient noise and voices so that only the relevant sound is captured. A new super slow motion with 960 FPS is also only available for the two more expensive models. Selfies, on the other hand, should turn out better on all models using “low-light AI”.
Android 11 should receive two updates
In terms of software, the “Ready For” platform introduced with the Moto G100 is also available here, so that a desktop environment with a customized Android UI can be set up with a monitor and Bluetooth input devices. Apropos Android: This is used in version 11, which can be adapted to personal preferences using “My UX”. These include fonts, colors, symbol shapes and fingerprint sensor animations. Motorola guarantees two Android updates and two years of security updates for all three models.
Edge 20 Pro and Edge 20 are expected in August for 699.99 euros and 499, 99 euros come on the market. The Edge 20 Lite is planned for September at a price of 349.99 euros.
