Domestic. Beach house in Malibu, attic in a world metropolis or maybe an alpine house in an exclusive ski resort? No, living in a mansion in the Swedish countryside tops the list of dream homes when Sweden's young people are allowed to dream freely. It shows a new survey from the Real Estate Agency.

In the new Sifo survey, which has 1,000 people between the ages of 18 and 26 in Sweden, answered the question “How would you like to live if you could dream freely?”.

Most , 18 percent, answered that they would rather live in a mansion in the Swedish countryside. The next most, 12 percent, chose a modern architect-designed villa in a fashionable Swedish suburb and in third place is a parade floor in Stockholm, 10 percent.

Among the three most chosen alternatives is thus all in Sweden.

– It is interesting that the young people stay in Sweden when they can dream freely about their housing. Our wonderful country, friends and family have a stronger appeal than vineyards and world metropolises. The fact that a manor house in the Swedish countryside ends up as a clear number one is also in line with the green trend we are seeing, which also reinforces the pandemic. More people want to live bigger and be closer to nature at the same time as central city locations have been devalued somewhat, says Johan Vesterberg, PR and communications manager at Fastighetsbyrån, in a mailing.

The foreign alternative that attracts most young people is a beach house in Malibu, which 9 percent would prefer to live in if they were allowed to dream freely. This is followed by a vineyard in Tuscany, 8 percent, and an attic in a world metropolis, 7 percent. Only 3 percent state that their current home is their dream home.
