On July 9th, Wiko is launching the Y62, a new entry-level smartphone at a price of around 90 euros. The manufacturer emphasizes the battery life of 1.5 days and the “Simple Mode” for the most frequently used functions. The smartphone runs on Android 11 Go Edition and comes with a protective cover and protective film.

The Go Edition of Android is for smartphones with 2 GB or less RAM adapted version of the operating system. On rather weak hardware, apps should start 20 percent faster and take up less memory. Google delivers the operating system including the Play Store and customized Go apps. On average, 900 MB more should remain free for personal files such as photos and videos.

Gesture control and simple mode

Google has integrated the gesture control of the full-fledged operating system in Android 11 Go Edition, as cheap smartphones are increasingly being equipped with larger displays. The Y62 measures 6.1 inches and offers 1,560 × 720 pixels and an integrated front camera with 5 megapixels. Wiko is expanding the operating system with a “simple mode” that provides a customized interface that displays the essential and most frequently used functions on a screen to make operation faster and more convenient.

memory expandable and dual SIM

The Wiko Y62 comes with 16 GB of memory, which can be expanded using a microSD card (up to 256 GB). The RAM is only 1 GB in the targeted area of the operating system. For the processor, Wiko relies on MediaTek and their Helio A20 from 12 nm production with four Cortex-A53 cores. Connectivity is provided via LTE on band 1, 3, 7 and 20, 3G and 2G as well as Wi-Fi 4 and Bluetooth 4.2. Another feature is the support of dual SIM on two nano SIM cards. For the 3,000 mAh battery, Wiko specifies a usage time of one and a half days.
