Corsair iCue H170i Capellix: Monster radiator with 420 mm for special requirements

Corsair's AiO coolers of the Capellix series are now also available with an unusually large radiator. The new iCue H170i Elite Capellix uses a 420 mm heat exchanger that is cooled by three 140 mm fans.

Only two separate housings are compatible

In addition to the Alphacool Eisbaer 420 and the Arctic Liquid Freezer II 420, the Corsair cooler is only the third model on the market that uses a radiator of this size. There are good reasons for that. Due to the enormous amount of space required, assembly in ordinary housings is ruled out, whereby “ordinary” should be translated as “midi tower”. Correspondingly, Corsair's own compatibility list only shows the brand new 7000D with top and front mounting and the 1000D from our own production only with top mounting as compatible – because the radiator extends a little more than three 140 mm mounting positions.

The three fans can also be stopped

The ventilation is provided by three fans from the ML-RGB series, which rotate at a maximum of 2,000 rpm. They can also be stopped completely when the load is low. Further LEDs are used in the pump housing. Fans and lamps can be controlled using the included iCUE Commander Core controller, a slimmed-down version of the Commander Pro Hubs. In addition to the three supplied three additional fans can be connected to the control, which allows either the control of additional case fans or the operation of the cooler with sandwich ventilation.

Market launch in two weeks for 229 euros

Corsair names a price of 229 euros for the iCue H170i Elite Capellix in its own web shop. The cooler should be available within two weeks. The recommended price is around 40 euros above the H150i Elite Capellix (test) with a 360 mm radiator with an already extravagant price, and an audible pump and high volume, but also the highest cooling performance. In this sense, the H170i will remain a niche product for special areas of application not only because of the “system requirements” with regard to the housing, but also because of these properties. It is aimed at scenarios in which maximized performance and little else is important.
