While Windows 11 with TPM, Secure Boot and selected CPUs has high system requirements for desktops and notebooks, Windows 11 ARM itself runs on a Microsoft Lumia 950 XL smartphone from 2015. Even after the installation, calls can be received and made without any problems.

< p class = "p text-width">As the French developer Gustave Monce alias gus33000 has now demonstrated as part of the “Lumia WOA Project”, Windows 11 ARM can be installed and operated even on an almost six-year-old Microsoft Lumia 950 XL. The functions for telephony are also retained under Windows 11.

Shortly after Windows 11 Build 21996.1 appeared on the Internet, the developer brought the new operating system to the 5.7-inch smartphone that was delivered with Windows 10 Mobile at the time with the help of remote access.

For the first time also as a full installation

With the official Windows 11 Insider Preview, the current build 22000.51, from the Dev Channel of Windows Insider program, for the first time, it is also possible to install it on the now somewhat older smartphone.

In a video, the developer demonstrates that it is technically possible to use Windows 11 ARM on a Microsoft Lumia 950 XL with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 and 3 GB LPDDR4.

The System-on-a-Chip from Qualcomm, still manufactured in 20 nm, with its four ARM Cortex-A57 and four ARM Cortex-A53 dates back to 2014 and can use a graphics unit of the type Adreno 430 with a clock frequency of 650 MHz.

Further information can be found on the official website of the Lumia WOA Project as well as the forum and the project page on the GitHub developer platform , on which all necessary drivers and patches are made available.
