The new Renault Arkana & egrave; arrived on the European market in March and immediately obtained a good reception with more & ugrave; of 10,000 units sold of which 1,000 in Italy. Now, the range of the SUV Coup & eacute; expands with the arrival of the Full Hybrid version. The new E-TECH 145 is; one of the pieces of the ambitious Renaulution strategy told a few months ago by the new CEO Luca De Meo.

This new model joins the Mild Hybrid TCe 140 and TCe 160 versions. The French brand has given us the possibility; to briefly test the new SUV Coup & eacute; hybrid, an opportunity to get a first impression of the operation of the new powertrain and check its consumption within a mixed route between urban and suburban streets of Milan.

ENGINE

The Full Hybrid powertrain of the SUV Coup & eacute; has a particular architecture already seen in other Renault models such as on the Clio that we have had the opportunity to try more; times. Briefly, we have a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated petrol with DPF paired with two electric motors. The first is; called & quot; e-motor & quot; and serves for starting, for charging and for moving the car up to 75 km/h. The second (HSG) works as a starter and generator. Is not serious; able to move the car except in combination with the internal combustion engine and also acts as a stabilizer in the gear change. Then we have a 1.2 kWh lithium-ion battery and a Multi-mode transmission with tooth engagement, free of friction. The combination of the electric motors and the gearbox with tooth engagement allows for the optimization and smoothness of gear shifting, energy management and energy efficiency.

Overall, the new Renault Arkana E-TECH 145 can & ograve; count on 145 hp (105 kW) . In terms of consumption and emissions , the manufacturer declares 4.8 l/100 km and 108 g/km of CO2. The speed maximum & egrave; of 172 km/h. It takes 10.8 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h.

CONSUMPTION

In the short test that Renault allowed us to do in Milan, we traveled 51.5 km between urban and suburban roads (no motorway). A journey that made it possible to evaluate the SUV Coup & eacute; within a journey that adapts perfectly to the characteristics of its Full Hybrid powertrain. Is not serious; no particular driving behavior was adopted to contain consumption. Just to improve energy recovery I chose to use the mode & agrave; B which also allows you to drive almost with only one pedal.

The test car also had the air conditioning on as the air temperature exceeded 32 degrees. All this & ograve; said, the result is; state of 5.8 liters per 100 km . This is not a particularly low consumption considering that the car has faced roads in which it is egrave; It was possible to take full advantage of the benefits of the hybrid solution. Moreover, the mass of the vehicle (1,435 kg) certainly does not help the result of consumption. To try to maximize the use of electric motors & egrave; it is important to better manage energy recovery.

For this & egrave; it is always advisable to use the mode & agrave; B which in purely urban use also allows a more driving guide; comfortable since it will suffice; lift your foot off the accelerator to make the car decelerate with a certain intensity. We are not at the levels of an electric car but driving becomes more pleasant as well as more efficient.

HOW ARE YOU?

I will not dwell on it; to talk about design, technology and safety since Luigi, in his test, already had; told everything. Moreover, in this first contact with the E-TECH 145 it is not; It was possible to investigate many other aspects in addition to consumption and driving impressions. Speaking of habitability, for those like me who exceed 180 cm in height, the Akana is; comfortable and spacious. Finding the right driving position is not; never a problem and there is always space above your head.

Even with the driver's seat positioned for my measurements, it sits comfortably in the back. For the legs there is really a lot of space. Just a pity that due to the shape of the car, who is tall like me, he tends to touch the roof with his head. However, two adults can travel behind without problems even for long journeys. The presence of the air conditioning vents and USB sockets is also positive.

I can only agree with Luigi as regards the set-up of the Arkana. Renault has chosen a rather rigid setup . If this is an advantage in mixed driving with the car exhibiting low roll, it becomes a & quot; problem & quot; if the road has holes or bumps. In fact, the roughness they feel a lot , perhaps too much in some cases. Good brakes, always ready. Speaking of the powertrain, would need a few more horses . Acceleration is not particularly bright. The declared values ​​are also lower than the Mild Hybrid TCe 140 version which has similar power.

The Renault Arkana E-TECH 145 & egrave; therefore suitable for quiet journeys to be done at speed; constant. Obviously, on urban roads, the powertrain offers the best performance in terms of consumption and driving pleasure. The restarts always take place in electric. If the battery has a sufficient charge value, it is not; it was difficult, during our test, to travel with the internal combustion engine off up to almost 50 km/h.

The car also has a button that forces the mode; electric only but it is of little use since even assuming to have the accumulator full, it would not be possible to do more; a couple of km before the endothermic engine comes into operation.

All versions have a particularly rich standard equipment which offers, among other things, Full LED headlights, digital instrumentation, infotainment with 9.3-inch vertical display, 18-inch wheels and various systems ADAS.
