Ninja Gaiden PC porting: Start parameters determine the resolution

“Rudimentary” describes Ninja Gaiden's PC port almost euphemistically. The version for home computers seems to have fallen out of time in terms of its range of functions and is missing a lot. The resolution is determined by adding start parameters in Steam.

The poor quality of the port explains the currently only “balanced” ratings on Steam. There it is criticized, for example, that in principle the console version can be played largely identically on the PC; Ninja Gaiden 1, for example, has the same frame drops as on the console. A graphics menu is also missing, the resolution is determined automatically at startup.

Depending on the monitor, it is rendered in 1080p or 2160p. In order to select the resolution manually, it has to be added as a start parameter in Steam, writes the publisher on the Steam product page. The start parameter can also be rendered in 720p. The game does not support resolutions other than the three mentioned.

Is-not-history

This is hardly appropriate until 2021 and explains why Koei Tecmo mainly describes what porting cannot do: in an age in which porting emphasizes what has been made possible, expectations must be subdued. It is not possible to play with a mouse and keyboard, a controller is required. However, direct input is not supported. It is also not possible to start the game in full screen mode. This must be activated manually via the “Maximize” button after each start.

At least the system requirements remain low. The minimum information should enable games in 1080p at 60 FPS and largely describe a budget PC. Only the graphics card should be a bit stronger. The recommended computer requires a bit faster hardware, but should also be able to render UHD resolutions.
