NIO has decided to bring to Europe its battery swap system which in China has had some success. Technology that European car manufacturers have also discussed a lot, and not just in the past. BATTERY SWAP
The new CEO of Renault, Luca De Meo , within the Future of the Car appointment of the Financial Times, announced that his company & agrave; is evaluating the possible introduction of the battery swap which would make it possible to drastically reduce the & quot; refueling times & quot; since in fact the low battery is replaced with a charged one . I asked our engineers to find a solution to go back to the original idea that is was tested by Renault around 2010/11 and perhaps we will see this technology arrive on some cars.
The French company, in fact, already had about ten years ago; evaluated the solution of battery exchange. Nothing, however, is; it has yet to be decided even if Luca De Meo considers this solution an opportunity; interesting . If the green light were to come, Renault would become the first major carmaker to focus on this technology. In addition to facilitating energy supplies, this solution would eliminate the problem of battery degradation as they would always be replaced.
Furthermore, new purchase formulas could be proposed with a higher car price low but with a monthly fee to pay. All this could also allow the car manufacturer to make more; the electric ones are profitable. Regardless of the commercial aspect, focusing on battery swap technology would mean investing a lot of resources in the creation of a network for exchanging batteries . An aspect, this, certainly not to be underestimated if done independently.
