The world's largest music competition, the Eurovision Song Contest, is arranged in Malmö from 4–11 May. This year's event is characterized by a very high level of security, not least in view of Israel's participation and the demographic situation in Malmö.

At a joint press meeting with the organizers – Malmö city, SVT and Malmö Arena – head of command Petra Stenkula told about police preparations.

– Since it became clear that Malmö became the host city for Eurovision, we have had a close collaboration with the organizers SVT and the city of Malmö and together we have built a robust system with different areas of responsibility so that the event will be safe and secure, she said.

Petra Stenkula stressed that there will be a lot of police in Malmö during Eurovision and that there will be police equipped with reinforcement weapons.

– This is nothing to worry about, but a precaution . Swedish police stand firm before Eurovision. We are there to create security and to prevent participants and visitors from falling victim to both minor crimes and crimes of a more serious nature.

The police have stepped up to handle a number of different scenarios in connection with Eurovision.

– One thing we can almost certainly count on is that there will be rumor-mongering and possibly more coordinated disinformation campaigns around Eurovision. Don't believe everything you hear and don't spread uncritical messages. If there is information about threats, let the police assess information related to the security of the event, said Petra Stenkula.
