A record number want to keep cash

Economy. More than eight out of ten Swedes, 83 percent, want cash to remain in the future, which is a record high percentage. This is shown by a new measurement.

On behalf of Bankomat, Verian, formerly Sifo, has asked Swedes every year since 2018 if they want cash to be available remain as a possible way to pay even in the future or if they want a completely cashless society.

In this year's survey, 83 percent of Swedes answered that they want to keep cash, which is a record high figure. The percentage of Swedes who want to keep cash has increased fairly steadily since the first survey in 2018, when the percentage was 68 percent.

The Swedes who answered in the survey that they want to keep cash were also asked to state the most important reason for their taking a stand. 51 percent stated “Crisis preparedness” as the most important argument for cash to remain, while 29 percent answered “Freedom of choice” and 19 percent “Inclusion”.
