Qualcomm becomes part of Canonical's silicon partner program. As part of the new partnership, the two companies will work together on optimized versions of Ubuntu and Ubuntu Core for Qualcomm processors.

Canonical works with several hardware manufacturers in its silicon partner program, including MediaTek, Nvidia, AMD, Arm and Intel. As part of this, partners will have access to optimized versions of Ubuntu for their hardware, long-term support and reference architecture. Now that Qualcomm is also part of it, there will also be optimized versions of Ubuntu for Qualcomm. For example, in an announcement the companies already talk about an optimized version of Ubuntu for Qualcomm IoT chipsets.

The two companies themselves say that the collaboration ensures that products and devices come to the market faster. In addition, more attention would be paid to security with a 'security-first' approach. It has not been announced exactly which products or devices the two companies will make.
