Saga was found strangled to death in an apartment in Örebro on the 29 April last year.

When the 20-year-old died, she was 31 weeks pregnant and carrying a healthy boy. The murder also led to the death of the boy she was carrying in her womb.

At the time of the murder, Saga had a relationship with the now accused Mohamedamin Abdirisek Ibrahim.

– I mean that the murder took place in a context of honor because the man wanted to preserve or restore his and his family's honor by killing the woman who carried his child, says state prosecutor Elisabeth Anderson, who is the head of the preliminary investigation, in a statement.

The investigation has obtained a statement from a university lecturer, who writes, among other things, that a son who chooses the “wrong woman” in a culture of honor brings dishonor on the family, but the son is not punished with life. The most common is to exert pressure on him to force him to break the relationship with the woman who is considered unfit as a mother and wife. A man without honor is regarded and regards himself as “living dead.” In order to restore his honor, he often needs to take the life of the close woman who is considered to have brought shame on him. The man's right to respect thus takes precedence and is more important than the woman's right to life, according to the lecturer.

In addition to the statement, there is other evidence in the case, such as extensive investigations of traces from the crime scene and analyzes of how telephones were handled around the time of the crime.

– The National Forensic Centre, NFC, and the IT forensics in the case have been an important part in the prosecution being able to be brought, says Elisabeth Anderson.

Mohamedamin Abdirisek Ibrahim has been awarded Swedish citizenship and therefore cannot be deported under current legislation.
