After Netflix first announced in an FAQ how the company would like to take action against the sharing of accounts in the future and then deleted them shortly afterwards, the announcement of the measures against account sharing now follows. Sharing – with immediate implementation.

Measures take effect immediately

The measures taken to prevent account sharing are expected to be the same as previously disclosed in the FAQ, although Netflix no longer specifically mentions activating devices every 31 days over the main site's local network. In any case, users must name this main location and receive access to who and which devices are using their own account via profile management.

Netflix has not yet given any further details in the FAQ. The German FAQ currently only states that an account is only intended for people within a household and people from other households need their own account.

A Netflix account is for shared use within a household (i.e., use by the account owner and anyone living with the account owner). People outside of your household must register for their own account to use Netflix.

Netflix FAQ

Paid sharing costs up to 6 euros

However, Netflix now also gives details and a price if you want to continue sharing your account with an additional profile with people outside your own household. This costs 5.99 euros for each additional profile in Spain, 3.99 euros in Portugal and 7.99 dollars in Canada. The number of profiles that can be added in this way for a fee varies depending on the plan you use and the country you live in. Also, external profiles cannot be added on the Basic and Basic with Ads plans. In the standard tariff, on the other hand, one person can be added from outside their own household, in the premium subscription, however, up to two. However, the option to add people from outside your own household should not be offered in all countries.

Start too in Europe

After being tested in Latin America over the past year, the measures are now starting in Spain, Portugal, Canada and New Zealand. They are to be rolled out in other regions in the coming months.
