The Italian charging network continues to grow. The Motus-E report

Where is the charging network for electric cars in Italy? Motus-E tries to give the answer in the fourth edition of the report “Recharging infrastructure for public use in Italy”. Therefore, at the end of 2022, electricity users in Italy could count on 36,772 recharging points. This is an increase of 41% compared to 2021. In fact, 10,748 new charging points were installed last year, of which 3,996 in the last quarter alone. Compared to the first survey by Motus-E in 2019, charging points in our country have increased by 245%.

The report highlights that the weight of high-power infrastructure is also growing rapidly. WHERE ARE THE COLUMNS?

Looking at the distribution of charging points on the Italian territory, the Motus-E report shows that about 58% of the charging stations are; located in Northern Italy, 22% in the Center and 20% in the South and Islands. In particular, the most important Italian region; electrified & egrave; Lombardy with 5,971 charging points. 16% of Italian charging points are concentrated inside it. Followed by Piedmont and Veneto (with 11% of the total each), Lazio and Emilia-Romagna (with 10% each) and finally Tuscany (8%). These regions cover 66% of the country’s total energy supply points.

Analyzing the infrastructure data from the point of view of the cities; subways, Romeit is in first place for the number of charging points (2,751), followed by Milan (1,927), Turin (1,641), Venice (1,372) and Florence (882). The last places in this ranking go to Messina (298 charging points), Cagliari (250) and Reggio Calabria (123).

The report shows that in 86% of the Italian territory it is present at least one charging point every 10 km. Approaching the cities, in many cases there are 600 charging points within a radius of 10 km. However, there is a need for greater homogeneity across the board. since there is; there is still a strong gap between the North and the rest of the country.

The report could not ignore also the evolution of the charging infrastructure on the highways. The motorway concessionaires that have not started installing the charging points on their own are required by law to publish tenders for the installation of the columns, but we understand that no one has so far launched tenders for the assignment of the sub-concession for charging of electric vehicles. We hope that after years of postponements this Government will finally be able to shed light on the issue, thus ensuring that Italy too can have a widespread and indispensable recharging network on the motorways.

Many think that the Italian infrastructure is far behind that of other European countries. Motus-E's report touches on this point, stating that it is the most important thing to do. more advanced than you think.

In fact, for every 100 electric vehicles on the road, in Italy there are 21.5 recharging points for public use, compared to 11.5 in France, 8, 2 in Germany and 8.9 in the United Kingdom.
