On Sunday evening, August 21, 2022, at the same time as Stockholm's cultural festival was taking place in the area, a bag containing a sharp bomb was found outside the Operakällaren restaurant in Kungsträdgården in Stockholm.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m., a witness noted that there was a blue bag behind a pedestal at the Opera Källaren entrance. However, the person did not call the police and left. Closer to 9:30 p.m., another person saw the same bag outside the entrance. The bag was apparently still hidden behind a pedestal. This witness called the police, who were nearby.

On inspection, the police saw that the blue bag contained green and white cables around some kind of silver-colored metal cylinder. The police decided to cordon off the place and the cultural festival had to be cancelled. The National Bomb Squad's bomb squad detonated the bag, which contained a live bomb, at 00:53 on Monday night.

According to the indictment, it was an explosive charge with two sticks of dynamite, more specifically 455 grams of dynamite explosives, and an electric detonator cartridge.

Now three teenagers, 15, 15, and 16 years old respectively, are being charged for their involvement in the planned bombing.

The investigation showed that the teenagers went to Västerhaninge and met another young man there who handed over a blue bag with a New York Yankees badge to the one perpetrator. The three suspected teenagers then continued with the train into Stockholm's commuter train station with the bag. Once there they separated and the one 15-year-old continued alone on a scooter with the bag in hand. He made his way to Kungsträdgården where he left the bag.

On August 26, the youth trio was arrested. On the same day, a person is found hiding in a wooded area near Kullerstensvägen's playground in Jordbro with a bag of explosives, K989403-22 This explosive is similar to the one found in the bag outside Operakällaren.

The prosecutor describes the crimes as serious. Two of the defendants have a Muslim immigrant background, but the third is by all accounts Swedish.
