Since the Christmas Day murder of the rape gangster Mehdi “Dumle” Sachit, there have been a series of serious crimes in Stockholm County.

Preliminary investigations are in full swing according to the police and there are a large number of people detained in the cases.

– We are determined to break the trend of violence and nothing is more important than that right now. In the first place, it is about arresting those who are behind this, both as instigators and executors. It is also about preventing more crimes from happening. This work will take time and is not easy, but our determination is great, says Mattias Andersson, acting regional police chief, at a press conference today.

According to the police, the intelligence picture of those who are part of and around the criminal networks is good and extensive work is underway to both investigate the crimes that have occurred and prevent new crimes. The work takes place in both the short and long term and it will take time. According to the police, an important part, together with the rest of society, is to stop new recruitment to the criminal networks.

– We see that both victims and perpetrators are young and that they are getting younger and younger. It is different from what we have seen before and it is about the ruthless exploitation of young people. In the preliminary investigations we have after the most recent serious crimes, half of the perpetrators are under the age of 18 and 75 percent are under the age of 20, says Hanna Paradis, who is commanding officer in the special incident that began last year in the Stockholm region due to the firearm violence.

The police and employees are strained and a collaboration is taking place with the police throughout the rest of Sweden to put a stop to the trend of violence together.

– We work around the clock to break the trend of violence. There will be more arrests to come. In that work, the police throughout Sweden work together, says Mattias Andersson.
