Peyman Kia, who was employed by the Security Police and the Armed Forces' intelligence operations between 2007 and 2015, is said to have acquired 90 secret documents that he photographed and transferred to a private computer.

About half of the documents are said to have then been sold to Russia with the help of his younger brother Payam Kia.

Among the evidence against Payam Kia, who allegedly handed over the documents and received money between 2014 and 2019, are digital messages and notes in which he writes about his work gathering information for the Russian military intelligence service GRU.

He also allegedly used encryptionequipment to communicate with his Russian contacts and had meetings with them in various European countries.

When Peyman Kia's computer was seized during a house search, two encryption programs were found with traces of 15 external storage devices which had been connected to the computer but then disappeared.

The district court has also established that the brothers, with the help of a known ringleader, have used various companies and accounts to hide the traces of their activities and their money transactions.

Peyman Kia and his wife have also spent large sums on shopping and dining, according to the investigation.

Traces of his Internet searches show that he looked for ways to delete the app ar, files and images and searched for the phrases “disappear in Sweden” and “stay away from the law”.

Brothers Peyman and Payam Kia have been sentenced to life imprisonment and imprisonment for nine years and nine months respectively for aggravated espionage .
