In Paris, Philips presented its new brand Evnia, behind which new gaming monitors, keyboards, mice and an RGB mouse pad are hidden. Among the four featured monitors are wide 34″ displays with QD-OLED or Mini-LED, a 42″ OLED monitor and a 27″ VA screen with 240 Hz.

Philips Evnia 34M2C7600MV

The Evnia 34M2C7600MV starts this year and relies on a curved VA panel with 3,440 × 1,440 pixels in 21:9 format. The mini LED backlight with a selective brightness of up to 1,400 cd/m² (HDR 1400) extends over 1,152 separately adjustable zones and thus ensures a higher contrast ratio and deeper black, but with the well-known disadvantage of halo effects.

With a refresh rate of up to 165 Hz and a response time of 2.5 ms (GtG), the images are displayed with simulated 10 bits (8 bits + FRC) and up to 140% sRGB. Connections include DisplayPort 1.4, two HDMI 2.1 and USB-C as well as USB-A ports and audio. A KVM function is offered and LEDs on the back ensure ambience (Ambiglow).

The Evnia 34M2C7600MV should be available in December at a recommended retail price of 2,069 euros.

In the same format with UWQHD and 34 inches, Philips will release the Evnia 34M2C8600 early next year. This offers a lot more in terms of contrast and without halo effects, because a QD-OLED display with self-illuminating pixels is used. This is likely to be the same Samsung panel that was first used in the Alienware AW3423DW (test). The other key data such as 0.1 ms response time, 175 Hz and DisplayHDR 400 True Black also match this.

However, the HDMI 2.0 socket of the Evnia 34M2C8600 is not that up-to-date. Consequently, the DisplayPort 1.4 must be used for the maximum refresh rate at the native resolution. A USB-C port with 90 watts, speakers with DTS and Ambiglow lighting are also available. The Evnia 34M2C8600 should be available in mid-January 2023 at an RRP of 1,849 euros.

Philips Evnia 42M2N8900

The Evnia 42M2N8900 comes in TV format with 42 inches and 16:9. This uses a non-curved OLED panel from LG, which offers UHD resolution with 3,840 × 2,160 pixels. HDMI 2.1 is already used here; DisplayPort 1.4 and USB-C with 90 watts are also available. The maximum refresh rate is 138 Hz and the response time is 0.1 ms. Loudspeakers, Ambiglow and height adjustment are further features.

The 42M2N8900 is scheduled to hit stores in mid-January for €1,959.

It's also cheaper: The Evnia 27M2C5500W is the smallest model at 27 inches and costs “only” 579 euros. There is neither OLED nor mini-LED technology for this. Instead, a VA panel with a conventional backlight is used, which displays the WQHD resolution (2,560 × 1,440) with a high 240 Hz. The panel is comparatively strongly curved with a radius of 1000R. A quad USB hub, DP1.4 and HDMI 2.0 are also mentioned.

But the “0.1 ms” on the cardboard cutout must be an error, because no LCD achieves such a response time. The market launch is also planned for mid-January 2023 at the said price.
