Economy. Sweden's gross domestic product (GDP) decreased by 1.3 percent in August compared to the previous month, according to the preliminary GDP indicator from Statistics Sweden (SCB).

The expected decrease was 0.7 percent, which means that growth according to the indicator fell almost twice as much as expected.

– Activity in the economy decreased in August, something that can be seen, among other things, in weaker industrial production, says Neda Shahbazi, national economist at SCB.

That industrial production figures fall is remarkable because the krona is weak and the dollar is stronger than in a long time. Such a ratio is normally good news for industry even in a recession.

The GDP indicator is an early indicator and is based on more limited data, Statistics Sweden's final figures from the national accounts.
