Mercedes T-Class & egrave; a & # 39; further confirmation of the return of a segment that for some time had been neglected, that of the & quot; multispaces & quot ;. Talking about categories today is; more difficult yesterday because & eacute; the & quot; crossover & quot; philosophy (understood as cars that are halfway between two segments and not as small SUVs) has long infected the car world.

In any case, the new German offers an alternative in the range for those who want the logo of the Star on a model that is more & ugrave; close to the finishes and comfort of passenger cars compared to the Citan Tourer, always designed for the transport of people, but with a commercial vehicle cut and chosen by those who use it for work.

Clearly the price changes, but the equipment also changes because & eacute; T-Class proposes all of this in the passenger compartment; we are used to at Mercedes in terms of controls and instruments.

INTERIORS: COCKPIT AND TRUNK

The rest is; quite classic: spaces and practicality; for the objects of all passengers and an ADAS equipment that does not look bad in the automotive world : standard automatic emergency braking, anti-skidding, blind spot monitoring and limit detection (as well as driver monitoring) in addition to the system with active steering that takes us back into the lane. Lack of adaptive cruise control and centering of the car in the lane, available later only for versions with automatic transmission.

ROAD TEST

There are four engines available for the T-Class, two powers for the 1.3 TCe FAP petrol and two for the diesel, an old acquaintance well-tested at Renault, the legendary 1.5 dCi:

  • Class T 160 : 75 kw (102 hp), 200 Nm
  • T-class 180 : 96 kW (131 hp), 240 Nm
  • T-class 160d : 70 kW (95 hp), 260 Nm
  • T-class 180d : 85 kW (116 hp), 270 Nm:

Driveability at the wheel & egrave; the same one we saw with the starting point: you drive by car, & egrave; very easy, but has reactions from suvvettino/van because & eacute; however it remains more & ugrave; optimized for convenience. Is not serious; the sports one, for & ograve; a fairly precise and light steering, not too multiplied and with a good readability; of the road that makes it valid for traveling. On the other hand, whether you have this version with children in tow or the commercial one with objects, in both cases it is not; recommended to scramble them between the curves. And in more & ugrave; & egrave; quiet enough if you don't overdo the speed, even if the soundproofing loses a few points compared to the manufacturer's classics.

The setup therefore changes compared to the French version: it is not a re-branding (such as Yaris Hybrid and Mazda2 Hybrid for example), but a joint project born and then developed in parallel. In Germany they have therefore applied a recipe that sees a new calibration in terms of cushioning: perception & egrave; of a slightly more roll content and an absorption always devoted to comfort but with a rigidity; increased which makes it more & ugrave; drivable in the mixed, always without exaggerating for & ograve ;.

Regarding the engines, the choice depends on the needs, but fully loaded & egrave; better to turn to diesel pi & ugrave; powerful : consumes little and is great for most situations. With five adults and luggage, however, you feel a limit if your trips often take you to high mountain areas, here a small torque boost would have helped. The automatic gearbox compensates perfectly by reducing the stress of having to downshift to second gear in some situations.

If, however, the combination of mountain and maximum load is not your case, then the 131hp petrol or 95hp diesel is better too; that sufficient in an urban and extra-urban environment, with the second indicated for large motorway travelers.

PRACTICAL THINGS

There are many practical aspects of a car like the T-Class: behind there are 3 seats thanks to the 3 isofix attachments, the parcel shelf is; foldable, useful for putting a stroller upright without having to take everything apart. Eventually you can & ograve; remove while missing the command to fold the seats from the trunk, which compensates with a very low load threshold (only 56 cm) and with a square, wide and regular mouth that exploits the space up to the roof. There is an electric bike without removing the wheels and knocking down only a part of the rear bench seat. Or two adult bikes by removing only the front wheel.

The access behind is; perfect: sliding door for passengers or to easily install child seats: I would have preferred a & quot; sound & quot; more dark and pleasant, like that of the GLA or EQA doors that convey a feeling of solidity; very high, but at the level of practicality; you can not & ograve; object null.

The equipment is completed by several compartments, the rear tables (they flex a little but are very large and comfortable) and large glass surfaces that favor visibility. in every situation.
