We talk more and more and ugrave; of the possibility to make electric cars an integral part of the energy system in the futureto introduce the electricity present in their batteries (perhaps produced from renewable sources) into the grid, to stabilize it especially at times of peak demand. Several car manufacturers are working in this direction. Now, comes the interesting news that Elli , the company & agrave; of the Volkswagen Group that deals with energy-related services, has launched in Germany together with MITNETZ STROM and E-Bridge a pilot project for the integration of electric vehicles into the smart grid .
THE PROJECT
Around 20 owners of Volkswagen ID.3, ID.4 and ID.5 will be involved in the first phase. The German Group explains that an algorithm will put & agrave; in relation to car charging plans, local production of energy from renewable sources and capacities; available in the distribution network and will offer; incentives to users.
The resulting flexible use of the grid is intended to reduce the frequency of bottlenecks in the electricity grid and to create economic benefits for participants. As Niklas Schirmer explains, Vice President of Elli, this project aims to demonstrate how electric cars can be integrated into the electricity grid in a simple way. For the manager, the car simply becomes a unit & agrave; accumulation , while for motorists an economic added value since they will be able to & quot; sell & quot; the energy present in the battery, perhaps produced by their photovoltaic system.
It will be therefore it is very interesting to find out what the results of this pilot project will be. In this regard, the German Group makes it known that the outcome of the first tests is; expected next autumn. Michael Lehmann , Process and Systems Management Manager at MITNETZ STROM, commented:
