Stellantis' electrification strategy also includes the construction of some factories where the cells for the batteries will be produced to electric cars. To get to produce accumulators, the automotive group has the need; to have an adequate supply of raw materials . In this regard, we know that Stellantis had signed an agreement in 2021 with Vulcan Energy for the supply in Europe of lithium hydroxide .

A very important agreement also because Vulcan Energy uses a low-carbon lithium hydroxide production system.

Vulcan Energy uses geothermal energy to produce lithium hydroxide for batteries obtained from frost, without the use of fossil fuels and with minimum water consumption, thus reducing; the production of carbon in the metal supply chain for batteries.

Now & egrave; news arrived that Stellantis has expanded its collaboration with this company through an investment of 50 million dollars .

INCREASE IN PRODUCTION

The automotive group has also extended the agreement to 10 years of original supply. The investment will allow Vulcan Energy to increase drilling at its Upper Rhine Valley Brine Field to expand its capacity; productive. Hence, the investment will produce an increase in the production of low-carbon lithium hydroxide, necessary for the construction of electric vehicles of Stellantis in Europe.

With this financial transaction, the automotive group aims to create a resilient and sustainable value chain for the production of electric cars in Europe. We recall that for the American market Stellantis signed an agreement with Controlled Thermal Resources in June for the supply of low-emission lithium. Carlos Tavares , CEO of Stellantis, on this news commented:

This highly strategic investment in a leading lithium company will enable us to; to create a resilient and sustainable value chain for our European production of batteries for electric vehicles. We continue to seek strong relationships with partners who share our values, collectively tackling global warming and offering mobility; clean, safe and convenient for our customers.
