Sniper Elite 5 will be released on Thursday, May 26, 2022. The system requirements that have now been published reveal: Rebellion's third-person shooter with a co-op campaign is very frugal in terms of hardware requirements – except for storage space. Nevertheless, AMD already has a corresponding driver update.
Greetings from the year 2013
Sniper Elite 5 was already announced at the beginning of 2019. Now set in 1944 France, the title is about to be released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, S and PC. There are now official system requirements for the latter – or there aren't, because developer Rebellion remains very vague, especially when it comes to the requirements for the graphics card.
An Intel Core i3-8100 and the usual 8 GB of RAM are mentioned as the minimum requirements, but for the graphics card it only says that 4 GB of video memory and support for the DirectX 12 graphics API are required. For example, an AMD Radeon RX 460 or Nvidia's GeForce GTX 1050 Ti come into question. After a short research, the Radeon R9 290X (test) from 2013 turns out to be the first gaming graphics card that at least theoretically clears both hurdles. Whether sniper Elite 5 can actually be fun on this map, however, can at least be doubted.
More VRAM, a lot of storage
Even with the recommended graphics cards, Rebellion remains correspondingly vague. Again it has to be DirectX 12, but the now required 6 GB of video memory will raise the hurdle until 2015. In June, the GeForce GTX 980 Ti (test) and the Radeon R9 390 (test) were the first graphics cards to meet the requirements be fair in theory. Rebellion recommends a Core i5-8400 as a processor, and the developer also mentions 16 GB of RAM.
Meanwhile, the memory requirements stand out: Sniper Elite requires 85 GB of free storage space on an SSD or HDD 5. Games with sizes of 100 GB and more will no longer be uncommon in 2022, but with otherwise such low system requirements, 85 GB is a bit surprising.
