The Huawei S-Tag has been rumored around the internet for months, not least because of a corresponding trademark registration by Huawei itself. So far, however, they have always been traded as location trackers, i.e. as a direct competitor the Apple AirTag – that was wrong.

At the Huawei presentation in Milan on upcoming new products, which also presented the Huawei Watch Fit 2, the Watch GT 3 Pro and the German launch of the foldable Huawei Mate Xs 2 were announced, the company has now put an end to the rumors itself and at least revealed what is behind the S tag.

Motion sensor for sports

Accordingly, the S-Tag is not a location tracker, but a motion sensor that is intended for sports activities and serves as a support for other fitness trackers such as smartwatches. It records the movement of the wearer and is intended to provide additional support for improving training and evaluating it, for example when running or cycling. Huawei has not yet explained in detail which data the sensor collects for its analysis. For attachment, the S-Tag is inserted into a holder that can be attached to clothing, shoes or the spokes of the bicycle. According to the images shown, Huawei seems to include or also offer different brackets for the S-Tag, depending on the intended use.

The 7.5 gram light, waterproof S-Tag is used for this attached to clothing. It can connect wirelessly to a smartphone or Huawei smartwatch and thus transmit its data. The S-Tag will be sold in pairs with a charging case so that you can charge it like wireless headphones on the go.

The price and date Huawei still owes it

Huawei has not yet announced a price for a pair of S-Tags and a release date.
