With this update we have already arrived at watchOS 8.4. Due to the lack of watchOS 8.2, this is only the third major interim update. Does that mean there are new features? Unfortunately not, because watchOS 8.4 is all about bug fixes and improved performance. One bug is known to be fixed.

Apple has fixed an annoying charging issue from watchOS 8.3 in watchOS 8.4. Some users, especially the Apple Watch Series 7, noticed that the watch did not charge properly when using certain chargers, especially third-party ones. Think of cheaper chargers from Amazon, but also from better-known brands such as Belkin. Apple says in the release notes that this problem has now been resolved.
It is not known whether other bugs have been fixed as well. Apple only talks about general performance and security improvements. No other improvements were revealed during the beta period. If more is known after the release of this update, we will update this article.
Download watchOS 8.4
To perform the update, do the following on the paired iPhone:
- Go to My Watch > General.
- Tap Software Update and wait for the update to download.
- Put the Apple Watch on the charger and wait patiently for the update to install.

While the Apple Watch is updating, keep the paired iPhone nearby so as not to disrupt the update process. Updating the Apple Watch can take a long time, so be patient. In any case, make sure that the connection to the charger is not broken. To complete the installation, it is required to hang the Apple Watch on the charger, so keep that in mind.
You can also update directly via the Apple Watch itself:
- Open the Settings app on the Apple Watch.
- Go to General > Software update.
- Wait for the Apple Watch to search for the update.
- Tap Download.
- After downloading, place the Apple Watch on the Charger. The installation will start automatically.
