The results of engineering samples – or qualification samples -, as they are issued to OEM partners for testing at the end of pre-production, show that the new spearhead of the Alder Lake-S series, the Intel Core i9-12900K can clearly beat an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X (test) in the Cinebench R20.

Very high performance in the single core

Corresponding results of an Intel Core i9-12900K QS in Cinebench R20 were distributed via Bilibili, Weibo and later on Twitter, which certify that the top SKU in Alder Lake-S's desktop portfolio has a very high performance in the single core. With 768 points in Cinebench R20, the CPU with its eight E-Cores (“Grace Mont”) and P-Cores (“Golden Cove”) is more than 18 percent ahead of an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, which usually scores up to 650 points scored in this discipline. In the multi-core test there is a stalemate with around 10,500 points – both CPUs render here at about eye level.

The results indicated several times in Cinebench coincide with Intel's information on the 19 percent higher IPC of the performance cores compared to Rocket Lake S, which delivers the same result as a Ryzen 9 5950X in Cinebench R20 single core, this picture also seems to continue in the CPU-Z benchmark.

In the single-core test of the CPU tool the qualification sample of the Core i9-12900KS is around 26 percent ahead of the Ryzen 9 5950X, while it also comes to a tie in the multi-core test.

The Core i5-12400 also beats the Ryzen 9 5950X

In the meantime @ 9550pro has also been able to find corresponding Cinebench results of an Intel Core i5-12400 on Bilibili and the new middle class from Intel also beats the current desktop flagship from AMD in terms of single-core performance.

After the Intel Core i5-10400F (test) achieved around 450 points in the single-core test of Cinebench R20 and the Intel Core i5-11400F (test) achieved around 540 points, the rumors attest the Core i5-12400 around 660 points in this discipline.

The rumors about Alder Lake-S are increasing

The Twitter user @TUM_APISAK has also found further benchmarks for Alder Lake-S from the database of the benchmark suite SiSoftware Sandra, which condense the rumors about Alder Lake-S.

In terms of arithmetic, too, there is a clear increase in performance for the Core i9-12900K compared to its predecessors Core i9-11900K and Core i9-10900K. Here, too, the very high single-core performance of the hybrid CPU stands out.

The entry in SiSoftware Sandra's database provides more interesting details.
