The Apple TV app, which includes content from Apple TV+, the iTunes Store and some other streaming services, is available on Apple Apple devices as well as the latest smart TVs from popular brands like Samsung, LG , Sony and Philips. So you can watch Apple's own shows, but also movies from the iTunes Store and content from Apple TV channels like Starzplay. But there are still a lot of TVs that can't install this app, especially TVs older than 2018. Apple has now released the separate Apple TV+ app for some LG apps. What's the difference?

Apple TV+ app for LG's from 2016 and 2017

So the new Apple TV+ app is a stripped-down version of the Apple TV app that you may already know. The biggest difference is that in the Apple TV+ app you only see movies and series that can be viewed within Apple's own streaming service. The advantage is that you will not come across films for which you have to pay separately (buy or rent). But the biggest disadvantage is that the amount of available content is quite limited.

The new Apple TV+ app has a simplified menu bar at the top with just three buttons: Apple TV+, Search, and Settings. You should therefore miss the Watch Now tab, as well as the separate Movies overview and your library. In the regular Apple TV app, you can also find your previously purchased and rented movies from the iTunes Store at Library. Watching movies from the iTunes Store is therefore not possible with the new Apple TV+ app.

It is not entirely clear for which TV models LG has released this app. In any case, we know that these are models from 2016 and 2017, but a list with model numbers is not available for the time being. The page shows that the app was already released on September 28, 2021. If you have an LG TV from 2016 or 2017, you can find the app in the LG Content Store. You may still need to download a software update for your television. More information about this app can be found here.
