MateBook 14s and MateBook 16: Huawei notebooks with Tiger Lake and Ryzen in 3: 2 format

Huawei will launch new notebooks on the German market in mid-October and early November. The MateBook 14s is positioned above the MateBook 14 and comes with a 90 Hz display and a faster Intel CPU. With the new MateBook 16, AMD delivers the performance with two Ryzen 5000H. All notebooks come in 3: 2 format.

The MateBook 14s is a better equipped variant of the already available MateBook 14 with a Tiger Lake CPU in the 28 watt class. The new notebook uses the Intel Core i7-11370H also a quad-core processor with eight threads However, as a Tiger Lake H35 CPU, the TDP is higher: Huawei has configured up to 45 watts. Huawei always provides the processor with 16 GB LPDDR4X-3733 and PCIe SSDs with 512 GB or 1 TB – all other key data are fixed.

Another distinguishing feature to the MateBook 14 is the upgraded screen. In addition, Huawei has increased the refresh rate from 60 to 90 Hz. At 400 instead of 300 cd/², the maximum brightness is also higher, sRGB coverage and contrast remain at 100 percent and 1,500: 1, respectively, but identical to the MateBook 14. In addition, the screen-to-body ratio is again 90 percent.

Huawei is aiming for a running time of 13 hours

A 60 Wh battery (5195 mAh/11.55 V), which is charged via a 90 watt power supply with a USB-C port, should ensure long runtimes. According to Huawei, the notebook can be charged to 53 percent within 30 minutes, 81 percent within 60 minutes and fully to 100 percent within 90 minutes. A charging process of just 15 minutes provides energy for three hours of work. The manufacturer specifies a running time of around 13 hours for video playback.

Huawei accommodates the technology in a 313.82 × 229.76 × 16.7 mm (thickest point) large housing (W × D × H), which is made of metal, weighs 1.43 kg and is available in space gray as well Spruce Green is offered. The new model goes down a little bit from 16.1 inches to a smooth 16 inches, but the resolution climbs from normal Full HD to now 2,520 × 1,680 pixels in 3: 2 format. The IPS panel works with 60 Hz and should reach 300 cd/m². A special feature is the factory calibration, which should be particularly precise with Delta E <1. Huawei specifies 100 percent coverage of the sRGB color space for this notebook. In addition, the screen-to-body ratio is 90 percent.

Two Ryzen 5000H are available

If the MateBook D 16 was still using the Ryzen 5 4600H, there is now a choice between the Ryzen 5 5600H and the Ryzen 7 5800H, the TDP is up to 54 watts. Always on board are 16 GB DDR4-3200 and a PCIe SSD with 512 GB. On the way, the hardware is supplied by a battery with 84 Wh (7,330 mAh/11.46 V), which can be charged with a maximum of 135 watts using Huawei SuperCharge. The manufacturer specifies the charging times as 30 minutes for 45 percent, 60 minutes for 80 percent and 142 minutes for 100 percent. The MateBook 16 should last about 12.5 hours during video playback.
