Hands-on videos and experiences with the iPad mini 2021

The first hands-on experiences with the iPad mini 6 can now be found online, mainly in videos, but there are also a few written reviews. Strangely enough, we saw a hands-on review of the iPad mini from 2021 at The Verge, but that will undoubtedly follow. The reviewers have been busy, as they also got to try the four new iPhone 13 models in recent days. In many cases, it is therefore about a fleeting first impression about the packaging and use.

Marques Brownlee shows the first experiences with the iPad mini in his video . As usual, he is quite thorough and also tells some interesting facts.

Hands-on at TechCrunch

Matthew Panzarino has taken care of the 2021 iPad mini and is very enthusiastic. Its speed, light weight and larger screen size make it the ultimate iPad since the 2010 original. That's quite a claim. You get everything the iPad Air has to offer, but in a smaller size.

Wired has tested the iPad mini 6

Wired is enthusiastic about the clean redesign, Touch ID in the home button and the larger and brighter display. Usb-c and 5G are also popular, but they find the tablet pricey, especially if you purchase additional accessories. The placement of the front camera is clumsy and the battery life is disappointing, as is the fact that there is no longer a headphone jack. You also have little choice of storage variants. In conclusion, the iPad mini 2021 still gets an 8 out of 10.

Gizmodo about the iPad mini 6

The Gizmodo reviewer was skeptical about whether small tablets could be useful, but the iPad mini 6 convinced her nonetheless. After an explanation about personal computer habits and a reflection on which tasks you actually need smartphones and tablets for, the high word has to be said: this iPad mini is great. Anyone with an iPad mini should upgrade. The reviewer admits that it all sounds very lyrical and also mentions a few drawbacks: she wishes there were more keyboard options and that multitasking would be easier.

MacStories goes hands-on with the iPad mini 6

The editor-in-chief of MacStories is a true iPad enthusiast. He has even switched to an iPad for his daily work. The mini is of course a different story. One word: delight. The iPad mini is the truest portable handheld tablet to date. It's not as powerful as the iPad Pro or as versatile as the iPad Air, but it just makes you happy. MacStories also thinks back to the first iPad from 2010, when it still had to be explained what a tablet is worth. Federico Viticci hasn't had this much fun with a new Apple product in a long time.

Ars Technica on the iPad mini 2021

Ars Technica calls the 2021 iPad mini the best Apple has ever made, but it is also very pricey. It's super cute, you'll fall in love with it right away. It is functional, fast and works with all apps. It's great to use as an e-reader or as a web browser. And with the Apple Pencil, it's also a great sketch pad. But all the improvements Apple has made to iPadOS lately has focused on larger screens and productivity, and the mini benefits less from that. The reviewer is also disappointed that there is no Smart Connector for keyboards and that the 8.3-inch screen is a bit small for multitasking. And the price is $100 higher than before.

First impression of Engadget

The best small tablet gets a facelift, writes Engadget. The mini has stood still in recent years and is now finally getting the love it deserves. Engadget mentions the fresh modern design, the excellent performance and the improved camera with Center Stage as plus points. USB-C, 5G and the use of the second-generation Apple Pencil are also welcome improvements. But the fact that there is no headphone jack and that you only get 64GB of storage on the base model is disappointing. It is also a pity that it is more expensive than the previous model.

NU.nl about the new iPad mini

NU.nl calls the iPad mini “actually a smaller iPad Air, but with a smaller screen”. That's right, because many functions and appearances have been adopted, such as the new design and Touch ID in the on/off button. However, it is not a revolutionary device, because most of the innovations were already in previous Apple products.
