Hands-on videos and experiences of iPhone 13 Pro

In this round-up you will find the first reviews, hands-ons and experiences of the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. Well-known YouTubers and sites such as MKBHD and The Verge have recently been able to try this model and share their experiences about the camera, the new colors and the other improvements. Most of the focus is on the camera, because Apple has also put the most improvements in it. Other features to highlight are the improved display and battery life.

First impression of MKBHD

Marques Brownlee shows the first experiences with the new product in his video. He unpacked all four new models for his video. The review will follow at a later time, but his unpacking video already gives a good idea of what the iPhones (and the packaging) look like.

Hands-on at Wired

Wired mentions that there are fewer reasons to upgrade than usual this year, even though the improvements are very nice. They call the Cinematic Mode “tremendously fun” and praise the 120Hz display. Although Android devices have supported a 120Hz screen for years, Apple takes a slightly different approach by adjusting the refresh rate to what you're doing and what the status of the screen is (a static image or a moving video). All in all, everything feels just a little smoother. They find a disadvantage that the Pro models come standard with 128GB, because according to them that is far too little. Although they are enthusiastic about the camera, they do miss some special functions that make it just that little bit different. It's not a huge improvement over last year, Wired concluded.

The Verge has already tried ‘m

Dieter Bohn of The Verge says the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are primarily for people who love details. According to him, the most important improvements are the longer battery life and the improved camera. He has been testing the new devices for about a week. The battery in the iPhone 13 Pro lasted a day in extreme conditions, such as filming a lot in 4K and at maximum brightness. It is therefore no longer a problem for him to go out for a long day without a power bank. He is very enthusiastic about the camera. According to him, the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max take the most beautiful photos of all smartphones. Especially in poor lighting, the devices take better photos. Other highlights, he says, are the better display. He does, however, find it a pity that it has a Lightning connection instead of USB-C.

CNET goes hands-on

CNET also praises the cameras of the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. According to the reviewer, the 3x optical zoom for the telephoto lens is a big plus. Macro photography is also fine, although he finds it a pity that the result is a bit less for macro photos with less exposure. This is because the ultra-wide-angle lens is less able to handle lower lighting than the regular wide-angle lens. The iPhone automatically switches to the ultra-wide-angle lens as soon as you get close to an object, because with that lens better macro photos are taken (except in low light). The Cinematic Mode is according to the reviewer a pleasure to use, although it does not produce perfect movies.

Review from NOW. nl

NU.nl has treated the four devices in one review. Their review shows that they find the improvements limited. They say the cameras are better, but not really a reason to upgrade. The smaller notch is noticeable, but they still find it clearly present. The higher refresh rate of the display makes for smoother images, although they wonder why Apple didn't already add this last year. All in all, they think Apple should have called this series iPhone 12s.

Review of AD.nl

In the review of the AD you can read that the improvements are mainly in the camera. Apple is making a few big steps, it can be read. Apart from the cameras, the devices are almost indistinguishable from their predecessors. According to the AD, you don't notice much of the new processor, except that the battery life lasts longer because it is more energy-efficient. About the 120Hz display, the AD says you have to be a foodie to notice this.
