Sharp increase in Swedish speculation in shares

Economics. At the end of June 2021, the market value of all listed shares in Sweden was SEK 11,650 billion – an increase of 21 percent in one year.

In kronor, the increase is SEK 2,031 billion, Statistics Sweden writes in a press release.

The proportion of the population that owns shares increased further during the half year. Since the end of June 2020, the number of shareholders has increased by 76,000 people, which is an increase of 6 percent.

The proportion of shareholders has increased the most in the groups with an annual income of at least SEK 500,000 per year. Low-income earners have instead sold their shares, according to Statistics Sweden.

Their shares have increased by between 11 and 14 percent during the period. In terms of the number of shareholders, most income groups have increased since June 2020, except for the groups that had an annual income from SEK 100,000 to SEK 300,000, where the number of shareholders has decreased.
