Domestic. Just over one in four inmates in prisons and prisons receive special diets for religious reasons, figures from the Swedish Prison and Probation Service show.

P4 Kristianstad reported last week that more than half of the prisoners in Sweden eat special diets, according to information from the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.

“The assessment of whether an inmate should be served special food is made locally at each institution/prison with the support of our internal regulations”, writes the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's press secretary Mikael Ringberger in an email.
By of the 5,210 inmates found in the statistics, 1,317 – a quarter – receive adapted diets “for religious reasons”.
“For inmates who for religious reasons do not eat a certain type of animal raw material or product, “An example of this can be inmates who state that they do not eat pork, they are then served an alternative. The alternative does not necessarily have to contain other animal raw material/product.
