We hardly watch traditional TV anymore. Streaming video services like Apple TV+ (try for free), Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video are more important than ever. But local providers such as Videoland, Film1 and Ziggo also have plenty to offer. More series are added every week and it is nice to know which series, films and documentaries really stand out. We have therefore made a selection.

New on Apple TV+: Truth be Told (S02)

Crime series starring Oscar winner Octavia Spencer. As podcaster Poppy Parnell, she tries to solve crime cases. This time she investigates a criminal case involving her good friend Micah (Kate Hudson). Reese Witherspoon is one of the producers.

McCartney 3,2,1

Watch from Wednesday. Six-part documentary about the life and work of the legendary Beatle Paul McCartney. Filmmaker Frank Marshall released a documentary about The Bee Gees last year and is now trying to show the man behind Paul McCartney. For this he has, among others, enlisted music producer Rick Rubin to interview. We see McCartney at work in his studio.

In November 2021 you can also watch a three-part series about the band called The Beatles: Get Back. This one was made by Peter Jackson of Lord of the Rings fame.

People Just Do Nothing

On display at: Disney+

British sitcom about some confident friends who run a pirate radio station called Kurupt FM. They are convinced that their music will catch on. This BAFTA-winning mockumentary in the style of The Office comes from the BBC and was conceived by the likes of Allan Mustafa and Asim Chaudhrey, who also play two of the lead roles. People Just Do Nothing started as a web series, after which the BBC turned it into five official seasons. In addition, a cinema film is coming.

The Walking Dead (S11)

The eleventh and final series of The Walking Dead can be seen from Monday on Disney+, on television on Fox and on-demand at Disney+. This post-apocalyptic drama series about a world full of zombies consists of 24 episodes. The characters are now introduced to Commonwealth, led by Pamela Milton (Laila Robins). If you're a fan of the original series, it's good to know that there's a spin-off and three more movies on the way.

Comedic drama series starring Sandra Oh (Killing Eve, Grey's Anatomy) as the new head of a faculty at a prestigious university, where she must immediately resolve a major crisis. Ji-Yoon Kim is appointed as the new head of the English faculty at a prestigious university. She faces many challenges there, not only because she is a woman, but also a person of color. The series was created by actress Amanda Peet and has supporting roles including Jay Duplass, Bob Balaban (from Seinfeld), Holland Taylor and David Morse.

Sweet Girl

Action film about Ray Cooper (Jason Momoa, of Aquaman and See fame), who loses his wife to cancer after an experimental drug for the disease disappears from the market. He then sets out to find the truth himself. That search puts himself and his daughter Rachel (Isabela Merced) in grave danger. It turns into a revenge mission.

Black Island/Schwarze Insel

An orphaned boy threatens to become entangled in the dark secrets of a seemingly peaceful island as he bonds with a mysterious new teacher.

Memories of a Murderer: The Nilsen Tapes

Available on: Netflix

Serial killer Dennis Nilsen recounts his life and horrific crimes on a series of chilling tapes recorded from his prison cell.

Nine Perfect Strangers

Miniseries with Nicole Kidman as the hostess at a spa where she is allowed to receive nine strangers. Based on the book by Liane Moriarty (Big Little Lies). The series follows nine people who do not know each other and who spend 10 days in a spa, where they quickly start to doubt the intentions of hostess Masha (Kidman). We see Melissa McCarthy, Luke Evans, Michael Shannon, Regina Hall and Bobby Cannavale, among others. The series was created by David E. Kelley and John Henry Butterworth.

The Green Knight

This is not just your average knightly film about the Middle Ages. Sir Gawain is sent by King Arthur to confront The Green Knight, a monstrous emerald knight who has brought many a hero to their knees. To do so, he must overcome various obstacles, while supernatural powers seem to threaten his journey.

The L Word: Generation Q (S02)

Generation Q is a sequel to The L Word, which ran on television from 2004 to 2009. This new series has more diversity, with several new characters. A few familiar faces also return, including Jennifer Beals (as Bette), Katherine Moennig (Shane) and Leisha Hailey (Alice). The second season consists of 10 episodes.

Dave (S02)

The second season of this series can be seen on Ziggo from Thursday. Comedy series by Dave Burd, aka rapper Lil Dicky. The film follows the life of a neurotic thirty-something who wants to become famous as a rapper. The series is semi-biographical and includes 10 new episodes. Dave has trouble writing songs for his new album in the second season. He also struggles to get his relationship with girlfriend Abby (Taylor Misiak) back on track. We also see rapper GaTa and Andrew Santino as Dave's manager, in addition to guest stars from various artists such as Benny Blanco, Doja Cat, J Balvin and Lil Yachty.
