Samsung already has various very wide 49 “monitors with 5,120 × 1,440 pixels in 32: 9 format in its range, which the manufacturer uses for gamers. The new model S49A950UIU, on the other hand, is marketed as a business monitor. The aforementioned resolution is available with 120 Hz, USB-C, Ethernet and KVM function.

Dual-WQHD for the workplace

Samsung describes the S49A950UIU as an “innovative monitor for more productivity”. The image area of the slightly curved (1800R) VA panel with 49 inches diagonally corresponds roughly to two WQHD displays standing next to one another with 27 inches. While Samsung combines the resolution with a refresh rate of 240 Hz for the Odyssey series for gamers, only 120 Hz is available here, which is still twice as much as with many older generation office monitors. Not only games, but also mouse and scroll movements are displayed more smoothly.

The focus of the S49A950UIU is clearly on use in the workplace. With many connections, the monitor should become a docking station. In addition to two HDMI and one DisplayPort (the version numbers are kept secret), there is a USB-C port with power (up to 90 W) and video signal for the upstream, for example from a notebook, three USB-A sockets for input devices and one Ethernet port for a local network connection. A picture even shows two USB-C sockets. Thanks to the integrated KVM switch, two sources connected to the monitor can be operated with just one keyboard and mouse. Reduced blue light emissions, flicker-free backlight and a height-adjustable stand are now standard in this environment.

In comparison with the gaming models from Samsung, however, the brightness is 350 cd/m² small amount. Instead of DisplayHDR 600 or 1,000, there is only the smallest level of the VESA HDR standards with DisplayHDR 400. The color depth is specified with 10 bits and thanks to the quantum dot layer (Samsung speaks of “QLED”), 95 percent of the large DCI-P3 color space should be covered. The Samsung product pages provide further details.

The S49A950UIU has recently been listed in the first online shops from around 1,250 euros. A delivery date has not yet been announced.
