The test of the Volkswagen T-Roc R : you can & ograve; to talk about sports SUVs? For sure & egrave; a definition that clashes and divides. For now, I still prefer normal cars or, if you prefer, low-wheelers, for & ograve; I try a lot of SUVs and I have to admit that some of them really offer great comfort in the longest journeys; long and maybe in a few years they will ceder & ograve; also & rsquo; I & hellip;

It must also be considered that today there are fewer and fewer true driving enthusiasts willing to do a little bit; of effort to get in and out of the car, to sit low, to give up comfort and convenience: & egrave; for this reason that first the super-fast sedans arrived and then the SUVs with a lot of horsepower that took away a bit of them; the scene; so & igrave; like now the Crossover, the compact SUV & ldquo; hyperpomped & rdquo; are doing with the compact sports cars.

Surely the T-Roc R between one corner and the other the speed & agrave; I will not miss it. For the rest it will be & agrave; managed to change my mind?

By now everyone knows the T-Roc well (here our first test) also because & eacute; continues to be among the most compact crossovers sold in Italy. The most enthusiasts, on the other hand, are now also familiar with this special version R: if it is; talked a lot, for better or for worse.

DESIGN AND DIMENSIONS

That the R is more & ugrave; bad is understood immediately, for & ograve; luckily they didn't exaggerate. The Lapiz Blue color , which I really like and which distinguishes the cars in the Volkswagen sports department, enhances their shapes and muscular appearance.

The most in front; attentive, they recognize it immediately by the specific design of the front, such as that of the bumper, with more air intakes; wide, to the vertical LED daytime running lights.

Nothing is missing: you look for from 19 & quot; (beautiful, with a well-chosen design), side skirts, rear spoiler; and then behind the darkened LED taillights, the 4-tailpipe exhaust system, as on all R models, and the aerodynamic extractor.

HABITABILITY? AND INTERNAL Rocp normal: a little & rsquo; of R logos on the multifunction leather sports steering wheel with the flat part at the bottom and the paddles for the DSG, on the sports seats, on the door sill finishers, the brushed steel pedals.

Otherwise it shares the other's weaknesses : assemblies of a good standard s & igrave;, but used plastic materials of quality; definitely improvable; not so pleasant to the touch as in the tradition of the brand, they are a bit & rsquo; more hard, and are even more & ugrave; rigid and less pleasant to the touch those that are not seen. The dashboard is a little & rsquo; cheap, is not; at the level of Golf. And since this is aimed at a type of customer willing to spend a lot more, they could have an eye.

Like the others (here the test of a diesel version) for & ograve; it boasts a good habitability , even in five but certainly comfortable in four, and a good capacity; load capacity of the trunk ranging from a minimum of 392 liters (445 in the front-wheel drive versions) to a maximum of 1,237. To get the tailgate with electric movement, add 425 euros.

T-ROC R: 2.0 300 CV TEST

The DSG change & egrave; good, sweet and progressive in driving more & ugrave; relaxed and capable of very fast grafts when you get into it, however & ograve; has a strange logic of operation and when you are in the mode & agrave; of normal driving, sometimes it is difficult to understand your intentions, and if you accelerate harder; decision, comes a little & rsquo; late. E & rsquo; fast but not always like this 4-cylinder turbo that we know well and never ceases to amaze: 300 hp and 400 Nm of torque , among other things available in a really wide rev range, from 2000 ai 5200.

Put in mode & agrave; Race , use the manual gearbox with the paddles on the wheel, push and you will find that it goes really fast: & egrave; able to trigger it from 0 to 100 in 4.8 seconds and fly it up to 250 per hour. The engine & egrave; always ready, dispensing is full and always adequate to what you ask the accelerator; has a great progression.

We become adults but we always like to play, even if the game is expensive here: to have the & quot; Performance & quot; exhaust system; in titanium signed Akrapovic we have to add 4,095 Euros. For charity, & egrave; It is true that compared to the standard one it weighs 7 kg less but, apart from that, the sound of the engine is; pleasant, it makes itself felt a lot in the most climbs; decided, and gives you a smile even when you go slow, because & eacute; always crackles and mumbles, even in release.

Many of you may also be thinking: ok on the straight, everything is fine, but cornering? In the days that preceded the making of the video, on roads I know well and with no other cars around, I tried to pull them a bit & rsquo; the neck and goes really strong and gives you; also the idea that it is easy to go fast. It gives you; confidence, it invites you to push and enter the corners decisively by braking to the last and climbing to the limit of the revs with the DSG.

To make it more effective from the dynamic point of view, they have lowered by 2 cm, to better counteract the movements of the bodywork when driving more and more; sporty: those who know it know that already & agrave; this can & ograve; help. Apparently they also worked on the camber to give a greater contact area to the tires. In short, they tried …

The 4Motion all-wheel drive with Haldex clutch it divides the torque between the two axles according to the grip conditions: normally it favors the front end, but if it is; necessary in a few milliseconds the driving force goes to the rear wheels. You will not feel it while driving, but you will notice it because it appears on the rails, it never breaks down, it does it in release but only if you provoke it.

Don't think for & ograve; to oversteer power or to close corners by exaggerating with the accelerator. But, for those with less experience, it means driving a more car & rsquo; safe in all conditions , without surprises.

Between the curves weight of almost 1,600 kg (about 100 more than the Golf R from which it derives) it feels, especially for the center of gravity obviously more; tall. In any case, when entering a curve it remains rather flat, but the extra kg & ugrave; they feel in the distance or when you exaggerate with the gas. It can not & ograve; be as agile and fast as a pi & ugrave; compact hot hatch but defends itself well.

The roll, which a little & rsquo; is heard in the other modes driving, & egrave; however reduced to a minimum in Race, with a very rigid setting.

Lo steering , which here & egrave; progressive , it is not; bad, it is not; too nervous and does not require too many corrections when traveling in relaxation, but when you want to push it is not; so & igrave; straightforward as it should be, it doesn't always make you understand what's going on under the front wheels.

For me, you will appreciate it best in the fast mix; in the streets more & ugrave; winding, in the sharpest hairpin bends; narrow, instead hints a little & rsquo; understeer. If you really want to drive it as if you were going to pole position, you can manually disengage the ESC, the electronic stability control: it has very high safety margins but I recommend you do it only if you are really experienced and used to it.
When you want to play some more c & rsquo; & egrave; also the Launch Control , to be sure to make the perfect 0 to 100 with & ldquo; slingshot effect & rdquo;.

The braking system & egrave; the one who also used the Golf R with the Performance package and i & egrave; seemed decidedly effective: & egrave; powerful but the pedal has a rather long stroke and sometimes & egrave; a little & rsquo; spongy. I do not have for & ograve; got to try it in the mountains, under stress downhill, this no & hellip;

And how much does it consume? Eh, it depends a lot on the foot and how much you decide to use it. The company declares an average consumption between 8.6 and 8.8 liters per 100 km.

ADAS AND SECURITY

Are you sure you really want to listen to the radio with the R? However, technology speaking, standard you will find: the 10.25 & quot; Digital Cockpit Pro , DAB + digital radio with 8 & quot; touch display; and 6 speakers (navigation ready), App-Connect with wireless function for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto , the preparation for a mobile phone with Bluetooth and for the online services of We Connect and We Connect Plus, 2 USB type C ports on the front and two more on the back but with only the charging function.

EQUIPMENT AND PRICES model year 2022 costs 45.950 Euro. In standard equipment you find Full LED headlights, alloy wheels from 19 & quot; with 235/40 tires, automatic dual-zone climate & quot; Air Care Climatronic & quot ;, the ADAS and the many other things I already have there; listed.

For what it costs and how much certain options such as the Akrapovic exhaust cost, we are talking about a niche car, which also forces you to pay the super stamp: & egrave; just a whim, for those who can do it; allow.
