Take Two is working on remastered versions of three GTA classics. Improved versions of GTA 3, GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas are to appear bundled as a trilogy for PlayStation and Xbox consoles, the Switch, Stadia, smartphones and the PC.

The games have not yet been officially confirmed. A few days ago, Take Two announced to investors that it was working on three as yet unannounced versions of titles that had already been published. This can also mean other games, but according to information from Kotaku, the three remasters are definitely in the last legs of development. The site relies on three sources whose information has proven to be correct in the past.

The basis for the remaster is the Unreal Engine, with a mixture of new and old graphic is created. One of the sources compared the graphics quality with an older GTA version that had been heavily pimped up by mods. At the same time, the user interface is updated. In a playful way, the games should stay as close to the original as possible.

Plans for the remaster have changed over time. A bonus for buyers of GTA V and GTA Online on next-gen consoles has now become an independent publication in which all games are only sold in a bundle, which indicates a full-price publication. The focus of the work should currently be on the console sockets, according to the report, PC and smartphone will have to wait until next year. Depending on the success of the remaster trilogy, further revisions and ports, such as Red Dead Redemption, are in the room. The sources report that there are already plans for this.

Three milestones

Rockstar is releasing three new milestones in the series. GTA 3 was the first GTA that said goodbye to the top-down perspective and presented its open game world in third dimensions. Its two refined successors are much more popular with players: Vice City abandoned the darker look of the third part in favor of a humorous presentation in the 80s setting with Scarface and Miami Vice borrowings. San Andreas significantly enlarged the game world and the game mechanics, for example with driving skills and the simulation of weight. There were also mini-games and “sex scenes” for the first time, which could be unlocked with the Hot Coffee Mod – which promptly caused a scandal in the USA.
