SPC Gear GEM Plus: Simple high-end mouse advertises with a low price

With the GEM Plus, SPC Gear, SilentiumPC's peripheral brand, is introducing a simple gaming mouse with high-end hardware and this time without holes – most recently the manufacturer introduced the LIX (Plus ) (Test) a perforated lightweight on the market, the shape of which the GEM is now taking over. The price is still special.

Closed case houses updated hardware

The dimensions of the two mice are almost exactly the same, although the new mouse should offer a better grip due to the closed surface. In the LIX Plus test, ComputerBase criticized the fact that the holes on the back do not affect handling, but the large openings on the flanks do. A textured hard plastic wall is now being replaced at GEM. The fact that there are no holes is ambivalent: the weight increases from 59 to 67 grams – a noticeable difference, but by no means a serious difference – in the end, the GEM is also a light mouse.

But there are also changes inside. So SPC Gear is swapping the old PixArt PMW-3360 for its successor PMW-3370 – however, precision advantages are not to be expected here in the context of human perception, as previous tests of the still quite new sensor have confirmed. In addition, the Kailhs GM 8.0 microswitches replace the Omron D2FC, which often causes unwanted double clicks in mice. Although the Kailh buttons are also purely mechanical switches, SPC Gear still promises a higher durability. The same model is also used in Endgame Gears XM1r, but there it is combined with analog debouncing.

Plus p class = “p text-width”>Otherwise, the GEM takes over the characteristics of the LIX Plus: On the underside there are black lacquered – and therefore unfortunately not entirely pure – PTFE sliding feet and the mouse is connected via a 1.80 meter long USB-A cable. That is again wrapped with flexible nylon so as not to restrict mouse movements as much as possible. The mouse wheel and a strip on the rear of the mouse are equipped with RGB LEDs; the usual effects are available here.

Apart from this, the associated software offers other standard functions such as adapting the sensor resolution, reassigning the buttons or recording your own macro sequences. SPC Gear does not comment on a possible internal memory of the GEM Plus. The LIX Plus can save a profile independently, which is why the same behavior can be expected from the new mouse.

The special thing is the price

The GEM Plus therefore represents an absolutely ordinary high-end gaming mouse without a specific unique selling point, but this can be found – again – in the price: At around 45 euros, the recommended retail price of the input device is cheaper than the market prices of many competing models with similar hardware. So Glorious & apos; Model O (test), for example, still costs around 58 euros, while Endgame Gears XM1 RGB (test) even costs around 70 euros. The LIX Plus is already listed in the price comparison for around 40 euros.
